i wonder,
who are the 5 people i'll meet in heaven,
if life after death was like the book.
we lead lives that are hidden behind this mask
the mask that no one ever goes near enough
to pull it off with one hand
ever wondered why it was built?
think again.

when you were 5, did your parents promise you something and not fulfill?
bike with training wheels?toys?sweets?
that's the first step.

when you were 6, your first day in primary school.
you cried for your parents and held them for security.
did they gently but resolutely push you away,
toward the school gate that seemed so big?
that was the second step.

when you were 7, you wanted your first real party,
decorated with balloons and a really big cake.
your parents agreed 3months before
and you excitedly plan your birthday,
expecting the minimal balloon and cake.
but your parents decided it was too much of a hassle
and suggested an outing as a family instead.
that was the third step.

by then,
your basic wall of defence was up.
nothing could possibly hurt you now that you're safe.
protected by your OWN wall,
your OWN mask.

when you were 12,
you got higher than expected for psle
and you were rejoicing and happily skipping to your parents.
they merely nod and say "let's go"
the crushing feeling you felt was unbearable.
you decided not to tell, share and show your emotions.
the second layer of wall was up,
the basic foundation of the mask with colouring.

from that point on,
every year,
bits by bits were added on
till eventually it is solid hard
and undetachable.
that became your way of life
just like everyone around you.

now you see why the mask is up?
that inpenetratable layer of yours?
much as we are aware,
nothing can be done.
you know why?
cause humans were made to disappoint.
